Downtown West Re-Light & Mood Practice
Done as a part of a class at SCAD with my mentor Bridget Gaynor ~
This project was initially intended to be a mere exercise in achieving subtly different moods: moods I designated "Burning Sky" and "Magic Hour." Both are meant to convey a sense of calm, though differing in the exact tone and context. Much like many classical war paintings, the red/orange sky of the first mood represents a solemnness after a terrible battle. The serene blue of the morning of the second mood represents the calm, whilst the warmness of the encroaching sun brings a sense of rejuvenation and hope.
I used this opportunity to experiment with UE4's support of real-world values, its mesh distance fields, and its relatively "new" SkyAtmosphere module. I used the SkyAtmosphere and mesh distance fields features as part of a dynamic day cycle, creating a natural transition between the two different moods.
